Monstrous: Hyem, Wyrm, Singe
A trilogy of artworks addressing Queer Monstrosity and Northern identity, through performance and video.
Inspired by Northumbrian folktales of wyrms (mythical serpentine beasts who can only be killed through cunning tricks) the series used monstrosity, and monster slaying, as a metaphor for weaponising oneself against queerphobic violence. The three pieces expand on the themes through differing forms and expression of the original folktales, but are linked by the persona 'Wyrm': a blonde-wigged femme with neon green accessories.
